Samsung is taking the edge screen design even further in a new patent. The schematics show how the screen wraps in half-circle around the edge to the back. Right now the Galaxy screen ends mid-way on the sides. The new screen design goes all the way until the back side begins. What the advantage of this remains to be seen.
Eventually, Samsung could make a Galaxy phone with a screen that wraps around the whole phone. The patent, spotted by Dutch tech news site LetsGoDigital is detailing the manufacturing process of this new extreme edge display with the 180-degree curve.
The schematics below show the difference between the currently available Edge display and the new round version.
Samsung is currently in the rumor mill with the Galaxy X, a foldable smartphone. The Samsung Galaxy S9 will be not as innovative. The new S9 is expected to be revealed as early as at the CES 2018, aimed at matching or exceeding the functionality of the iPhone X as much as possible.
