The Apple unveiled the iMac Pro back in June. Apple has only said to release the iMac Pro in December. We know that the iMac Pro is real as Apple recently showed them off at hands-on events. With HomePod delayed, the fear of delay of the iMac Pro becomes real.
December releases are just a dumb idea. Depending on when Apple will start to take orders for the iMac Pro, it will not arrive in time for the Holidays. It's also not clear how fast Apple will be able to ship the iMac Pro. It depends on the number of options Apple will give customers to configure the iMac Pro.
The current spec sheet only suggests being able to choose between 3 CPU configurations. It's not clear if this is final and the price points of the different options are not released. At this point, we just know the base price of $5,000. Apple offers to sign-up to get notified when the iMac Pro goes on sale on this page.
Last week some interesting news leaked about the iMac Pro. For the first time, a Mac is sporting an A10 Fusion CPU. The Apple-designed chip found in the iPhone and iPad is used for always-on Siri. Code reveals that the iMac Pro will likely be always running like the iPhone is always on too.
Apple did not mention anything about this back in June. The A10 chip is also likely involved in security functions.
